Patrick war zu seiner Großtante gezogen, da ihr Dorf in der Nähe der Uni lag. Nun fuhr er ständig mit dem Auto statt dem Fahrrad, soff mehrfach mit Kommilitonen die Woche. Aber jeden Abend kochte seine Tante für ihn, damit der Junge was Anständiges isst. Wenn er abends weg war stand das Essen in einem Warmhalteofen. Früh gab es ein kräftiges Bauernfrühstück. Der Junge hatte schnell zwanzig Kilo zugenommen. Patrick wurde immer dicker und wusste nicht, wie er dieses Wachstum stoppen sollte. Er hatte probiert, das Essen in der Mensa wegzulassen, aber von früh bis abends nichts essen funktionierte nicht. Wenn er versuchte, zusätzliche Portionen zu verweigern, tätschelte ihm seine Großtante den dann eingezogenen Bauch und sagte: "Blödsinn! Ein junger Bursche wie du braucht eine ordentliche Portion kräftigende Nahrung, also iss auf! Du bist jetzt endlich etwas wohlbeleibter geworden und kein schmaler Hering mehr. Junge Männer sind wie Gänse, wenn man sie nicht stopft, taugen sie nichts.“
Patrick ergab sich in sein Schicksal und wusste, dass sein Bauch und Körper weiter aufquellen würde, bis er nur noch mühsam watscheln konnte.
